The admission number for Deepdale Community Primary School is 90. Parents are given the opportunity to express three preferences for a primary school by applying here.  Published criteria are used to decide which children should be offered the available places.  In primary schools, an equal preference scheme is operated to comply with the Schools Admission Code, whereby three parental preferences are given equal status and are considered equally against the admissions criteria.  If a school is oversubscribed, the following criteria will be applied in priority order:

  1. Looked after children or a child who was previously looked after, but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangement order, or special guardianship order or those children who appear to the school to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted, then

  2. Children for whom the Local Authority accepts that there are exceptional medical social or welfare reasons which are directly relevant to the school concerned below, then

  3. Children eligible for Services Premium, then

  4. Children with older brothers and sisters attending the school when the younger child will start, then

  5. Remaining places are allocated according to where a child lives. Those living nearest to the preferred school by a straight line (radial) measure will have priority, below.

The distance criterion will be used as the tie breaker if there is oversubscription within any of the admission criteria; it is a straight line (radial) measure.

If the Local Authority is unable to distinguish between applicants using the published criteria (eg. Siblings, those living the same distance from home to school, or families residing in the same block of flats) places will be offered via a random draw.

The distance measure is a straight line measurement (radial) between the applicant’s home address points and the address point of the school (co-ordinates provided by ordnance survey data).

Deferred and part-time starts

You can request that your child attends school part-time or defer their starting school until they reach compulsory school age, if that best suits the needs of your child.

All parents are entitled to request part-time provision or deferred entry within their child's reception year (places offered from the September after a 4th birthday). Many Lancashire primary schools and academies may offer some initial phased part-time provision to new starters. Any required extension or variation to these arrangements is by negotiation with the school or academy.

Parents may also request that their child starts the offered reception place later in the school year (subject to the legal requirement that this must be by the start of the term following a 5th birthday). There must be agreement with the relevant admission authority and school. Where deferred entry within a child's reception year is agreed, the offered place will be reserved until the beginning of the Easter term.

Further information about this can be found by visiting this link, it is important to ensure that at the heart of any decisions like this, the child's needs are kept at the forefront of the process.

Changing schools during the school year

There can be a number of reasons that you may have to move your child to a different school at some point during their school career. To do this and move to Deepdale Community Primary School you must apply for an in-year admission. This is different from an application for the usual transfer points, starting reception year of primary school or year 7 of secondary school.

Lancashire County Council co-ordinates in-year admissions for Deepdale Community Primary School and forms can be completed here

Before you start

  • Applications can only be made a maximum of four weeks before the school place can be taken up

  • Please ensure you have an email address to complete an online application

  • If you're applying for a place for more than one child you must complete a separate application for each child

  • Please detail school preferences in priority order

  • Remember to formally submit your online application and check your email for confirmation the application has been submitted (check your spam or junk mail folders if your confirmation email has not arrived)

After you apply

Your application will be processed by the local area education office in line with the Admissions Code and fair access policy.

Lancashire County Council will acknowledge receipt of your application and then write to you with the outcome within approximately 15 school days (this does not include weekends or school holidays).

There is no need to contact them before the 15 days have passed. Remember to check your spam or junk mail folders before you get in touch.

The Access to Education Entitlements privacy notice tells you how we process personal data.

Receiving a school offer

If the school you request has places, your child will be offered a place at the school and you will receive your offer letter via email or post. You must contact the school within 5 school days of the offer date to arrange school admission.

If the school you request doesn’t have any places, you will be notified and should contact the area office to find out about availability of places at other local schools. You also have the right to appeal against the refusal of a place in current Reception class to current Year 11.

Children already attending a local school

Where a child is already on roll at a local school, they must continue to attend until the date of admission to the new school.

Appeals

If you are unhappy with your school offer you can appeal for any schools which at that time have no available places. Information and advice is available from the admissions team at your local area education office.

Your appeal should be submitted using this link within twenty days of refusal of admission. This appeal provides you with an opportunity to explain why you wish to register your child at out school.
